Gifts for a Nursing Mama

As a first time pregnant mama all the information thrown at you can be overwhelming. Not only are you learning about pregnancy and all the changes your body is going through, but you're expected to develop parenting philosophies, have a pediatrician picked who endorses said philosophies, learn how to care for a baby, and know how to fold a pack 'n play single handedly!

If you're a mom who has been there and done that, you can encourage the new moms and moms-to-be in your life. I am so grateful I had a little village of mamas surround me to help me navigate issues, give a listening ear, encourage me, & give me practical tidbits of information.

One friend in particular armed me with a nursing gift basket and I couldn't have been more thankful! I had never even heard of a "nipple shield" before and I was grateful I had a friend who not only armed me just in case, but was there to explain the nitty gritty of what I may need and why as I began the journey of nursing. So many new mamas give up on nursing because of the challenges it entails and this little gesture may be enough to help her through.

Here are my favorite tried and tested items for a new mama nursing kit:

  • Medela Nipple Shield - Thankfully I never had to use this, but I was glad to have it just in case.
  • Lansinoh Soothies Gel Pads - These provide sweet, cooling, moisturizing relief to newly nursing nips.
  • Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple Butter - This natural, non-GMO formula moisturizes Mama to help aid with cracks and blisters. It is so natural that baby can nurse even with it freshly on Mama.
  • Brooklyn Baby Bamboo Nursing Pads - These eco-friendly reusable nursing pads are super soft (meaning they don't stick or cling to sensitive chests) and they are the only reusable nursing pads I found that won't leak through! That's a big deal.
  • Medela Breastmilk Removal Soap - Between oversupply and a baby & mama who had never nursed before, we got milk everywhere in the beginning! A few pumps of this in the washing machine cleaned up nursing pads, nursing bras, nursing tanks, sleepers, bed sheets, burp cloths, and anything else that got milk on it.
  • Aden + Anais Silky Soft Burpy Bib - This burp cloth is extremely soft and only gets softer with washing. It has a convenient snap to turn it into a bib which was perfect for my messy eater.
  • Earth Mama Angel Baby Peaceful Mama Tea - This organic blend is designed to help Mama relax and be at peace.
  • The Vintage Honey Shop Nursing Necklace - These necklaces are made with care so they are safe for baby and stylish for Mama!
